This page is here because Australian law expects it, and because a site that lectures you about sourcing should be honest about its own incentives.
The short version
Some links on this site earn a commission or a referral credit. Where a page carries those links, a note at the top of the page says so. Nothing on this site is paid editorial, and no company has ever paid for a placement, a ranking, or a favourable paragraph.
What that does not change
- What you pay. Signing up through a link here costs you the same as going direct. Where an offer is a referral credit, it usually costs you less — some energy offers give the referrer and the referee the same credit.
- What is listed first. Order is by what the numbers say, not by what pays.
- Whether it is published at all. The rule is: if I would not write it without a commission, it does not get written because of one.
Where the money comes from
Stated plainly, so you can weigh it:
- Energy plan referrals. Some retailers and comparison services pay a fee when a reader signs up or requests a quote. Amounts vary by program.
- Installation leads. Solar and charger installation comparison services pay per qualified quote request, not per sale. You are not committed by filling one in.
- Affiliate links to hardware and accessories. A small percentage of a purchase.
- Display advertising. None at present. If it is ever added, say so here.
The thing to watch for
An affiliate incentive biases a site towards writing about things that pay. That is real, and the honest defence is not a promise — it is that the pages with the most work in them on this site (charging cost, running cost, the calculator) earn nothing at all. If that balance ever changes, this page changes first.
Your choice
If you would rather not use an affiliate link, go to the retailer directly. The figures on the page are the same either way, and that is deliberate.
