EV Costs Australia

What an electric car actually costs in South Australia

Charging, electricity plans, home chargers, registration — the numbers, from sources you can check. Tariffs and rebates here are state-based, so this site does South Australia first and says so when a figure only applies here.

Two rules: every figure carries a source, and anything that could not be verified is flagged as unverified rather than smoothed over. Where I am giving judgement rather than data, I say which.

What charging costs you

Three numbers, one answer. Nothing here is a quoted price — it is arithmetic on what you put in.

Working…

Home charging only: every kWh at your rate, against South Australia tariffs. Two numbers to change for an answer you can rely on — the rate, which is the South Australia indicative rate rather than a quoted plan, and the consumption, where 15 kWh/100 km describes a small-to-mid electric car and a larger one uses more.

Full charging cost calculator — adds a state selector, public charging, a petrol comparison, the tariff table with sources, and the working. Its default splits charging 85% home and 15% public, so its headline figure comes out higher than this one.
